- Do you want LEVEL to close?
- No. We want the speakers inside. LEVEL can host every wedding, gala and Bar Mitzvah it can book, in the roughly 9,700 square feet of indoor ballroom it already has. The patio can have cocktails, dinner and conversation. It cannot have a DJ.
- Why did the tone of this site change?
- Because polite didn't work. This site launched wishing LEVEL success and asking for five modest things. Months later the parties on the open-air patio are still happening, a neighbor who spoke to the organizer was brushed off, and the police keep getting called. We tried nice. It's on the record. This is what comes after.
- What does “not at your LEVEL” mean?
- LEVEL sells itself as the new standard for luxury on Pico Blvd, with a $6,000 minimum. The people behind it are renters in apartment buildings: families, retirees, people who work early. Most of us will never be LEVEL's customers, and it shows in how we've been treated. We're not at your LEVEL. We're at your property line.
- Has anyone actually talked to LEVEL?
- Yes. A neighbor spoke to the event organizer in person during a party and was brushed off. LAPD has been called to the venue repeatedly. Residents report that the volume drops while officers are there and comes back up once they leave.
- Isn't noise just part of living near Pico Boulevard?
- Traffic, sirens and a busy boulevard, yes. A DJ on a microphone at 10:17 PM on a Sunday, on an open-air patio aimed at apartment windows, is not “city noise.” It's a business decision LEVEL makes every time it books the patio instead of the ballroom.
- What does the law say?
- Los Angeles Municipal Code Sec. 112.01 says amplified sound audible more than 150 feet from the property line of the source, in or within 500 feet of a residential zone, is a violation. Sec. 116.01 prohibits loud, unnecessary and unusual noise that disturbs the peace of a neighborhood. We are residents, not lawyers. The apartments behind LEVEL are one alley away.
- Will this website ever come down?
- Yes, and we've said so publicly. No DJs, live singers or amplified music on the patio after 9 PM, and a manager's number that gets answered during events. LEVEL keeps that up, and this site goes dark. We'd honestly rather be asleep than running it.
- Is “The Brochure” real?
- No. The Brochure is satire written by the neighbors. Every line on its left side is quoted from LEVEL's real marketing. Every line on the right side is our parody. LEVEL did not write it and would not say it. It just says what the neighbors hear.
- Is this website affiliated with LEVEL?
- No. LEVEL With Respect is run by neighbors. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by LEVEL Venue, levelvenue.com, or The Mark for Events.
- What can I do?
- Sign the petition. That's the big one. And when the music is inside your home, call LEVEL at (310) 751-2446, their own published number, and ask them to tell the DJ to keep it down. Still loud? Call LAPD non-emergency at 1-877-ASK-LAPD (1-877-275-5273). If you're thinking of booking LEVEL, ask them where your DJ will be set up, and who lives behind it.
